Expert one-on-one coaching will maximize your potential.
WHAT ARE SHELF EXAMS?
The NBME Subject Examinations are commonly referred to as the NBME Shelf Exams, or “Shelf Exams.” These are a series of subject-specific standardized tests that are administered after the completion of certain clerkship rotations during the third year of medical school.
Shelf Exams are administered on paper or online. Each Shelf Exam is composed of 110 multiple-choice questions, and aims to assess your mastery of the subject-specific material of each clerkship.
Shelf exams play a very crucial role in your major clinical grades, which will be a focus of residency programs reviewing your application. Even if you receive sterling reviews and comments from interns and attendings, you will not be able to earn high marks in each rotation without excelling on your Shelf exams.
Shelf exams are administered on paper or online. They last for 2 hours and 30 minutes and consist of 100 questions each.
