Clubbing seems simple enough — hypoxia activates vasodilators and the fingers then have an increase in blood flow.

Why is the prevalence of clubbing greatest in adenocarcinoma of the lung and least in small cell carcinoma? Why would there be different levels of hypoxia? Does the location of peripheral vs central make a difference? Mucus secreting vs non mucus secreting? What’s the scoop on that?
