I’ve only done telemedicine during my Psych rotation. It was geared around follow ups for maintenance. We discussed current moods, thoughts, adherence, etc… I see the pros of telemedicine as convenient for the patient. They don’t have to drive or wait much. I have friend’s who use it all the time and love it. On a personal note, I think it can be convenient for doctors as well for the same reasons but there are times when you need a good physical to understand the situation. Also, having the patient there in front of you has that personal touch with the knowledge that it really is just the two of you there and it is a safe place to open up.

I studied Psychology in Undergrad and worked as a behavior analyst with autistic children for about 9 months. I eventually felt like I could do more with a medical degree. I have a passion for Family medicine now because I enjoy the variety and I am a strong advocate of healthy lifestyle and preventative medicine. However, I still have a strong passion for psychology as well which I incorporate into my approach.

From what I know about Covid-19, it is spread through water droplets in the air we exhale. If that’s the case, if we can limit how far the air we breath reaches than that should limit the radius of infectivity. I’ve seen videos showing sneezes and the aerodynamics of our regular breathing without any mouth or nose covering. The distance things can travel without a barrier is pretty far. I believe a simple barrier, like a mask, can block the trajectory and significantly limit the distance these particles can travel.

Here is one of the videos I’ve watched that explains it pretty well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Tp0zB904Mc
